Phase I Construction Notices

The important construction notice below is for those who may be affected by the Harvard Street bridge construction in and around the South Medford/Tufts University area.

The Green Line Extension (GLX)  construction team has sent notification of upcoming Phase 1 project work.  Starting April 3, 2013, National Grid Gas will be moving over a 6-inch gas line running under the intersection at Winchester Street and Harvard Street in Medford. This work is expected to run over the course of two weeks.

The work is being done so the GLX contractor can install the new drainage pipe as part of Phase 1 construction.  The GLX Project is replacing the aging existing 24-inch storm drain pipe with a new 30-inch pipe in hopes of solving the years long flooding problem in the area.

The National Grid gas line work will involve a single lane closure at Winchester Street and Harvard Street.  Work will be done from 9 AM to 3 PM, Monday through Friday only. National Grid Electric will be out in the same area soon after to move electrical lines for the same purposes.

Thank you in advance for your patience. This work will lead to improved drainage in the area. Should you have any questions concerning the National Grid work please contact Lien Gauthier at National Grid at 617-438-9069.
